Band-description Exilent

 

Exilent is a D-Beat// Crust// Hardcorepunkband from Hannover// Germany which was formed in 2009. After a few changes in the lineup we started playing shows in 2010 and released our five song demo-cd “D-Beat Overkill Hangover“ in January 2011. One year and many shows later we recorded our first album, the “Born to Struggle“ LP, which we released by ourselves and with the help of Antikörper-Export. In summer 2012, we toured in Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia.

 

In reviews and by listeners, the sound often was compared to bands like Fleas'n Lice or Detestation. As written by every member of the band, the lyrics are characterized by a great variety of themes and treat political as well as personal issues. They all have in common a socio-critical attitude.

 

Due to dramatic events in 2012, several changes of members took place. Lonski is now playing Bass instead of Paul, who died last summer and had supported Exilent since the beginning. Also the male and female vocals on the LP now have been reduced to the latter one.

Chris Corsano is a renowned drummer and improviser currently based in upstate New York. He has released a slew of records over the past decade, often with partner in composition/destruction, saxophonist Paul Flaherty. Corsano's technique involves both a fluid physicality and an innate sense of how disparate sounds compliment one another. The drum kit serves as his toolbox, but it is not so sacred that the introduction of foreign objects or outlandish techniques would defile its integrity. His use of wood blocks, funnels, and simple human breath exemplify Corsano's ability to surpass the limitations of his materials with imagination and artistry. His inventive virtuosity has led to his recruitment into one of Björk's touring ensembles, and he has recorded and performed with Joe McPhee, Bill Orcutt, Evan Parker, Jim O'Rourke, Keiji Haino, Jandek and many others.

"I recently released "Music From The Guardhouse" through Kraak records. Being an album of textual and musical archaisms. This summer, i'm currently working at a new work based on A B B A A B B A C D E C D E the Petrarchan sonnet. When my music is becoming more natural than ever, the human mind is still absent in presence, in (collaged) compositions mimicking paintings. Producing sounds of ethnical, electronical, either classical nature, watermarking the natural world. 
During this tour, i will be presenting a series of concerts based around the Hula Of Westlake (title is tentative). And the happenings may involve dance, slide images, spoken word, audience participation and cigar smoking."

"Das Cello, das auch nur ein Instrument mit Saiten ist, wird von Ansgar Wilken gespielt, als wäre es eine Gitarre. Gitarre auf dem Cello spielen: vielleicht ist das was Neues, vielleicht spielt das keine Rolle. Es gibt keine besonderen Präparationen, der Bogen ist eher sekundär, das Cello bleibt ein Cello. Jedoch spielt da einer, der sich im Alter von 13 Jahren das Fingerpicking auf einer störrischen Westerngitarre aus dem Jugendraum des CVJM autodidaktisch beibrachte – das sind die Roots. Heute hören wir eine Celloübersetzung in von starker rechter Hand gespielten repetitiven Mustern, sirrend leisen Feedbacks, extremen Verdichtungen.
